چکیده
Percutaneous insertion of a Swan-Ganz catheter through the internal jugular vein is presumed to have resulted in lodgement of the catheter tip in the wall of the internal carotid artery.

Vertebral arteriovenous fistula: an unusual complication of Swan-Ganz catheter insertion.
The leading causes of trauma to the major craniocerebral vessels include penetrating and non penetrating trauma [1 , 2]. Because the vertebral artery is confined to the incomplete bony canal formed by the successive foramina in the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae, it is less susceptible to penetrating injury than is the carotid artery [2]. A review of the literature has unc...
متن کاملInadvertent fracture during the attempted removal of entrapped Swan-Ganz catheter.
Dear Editor, Pulmonary artery catheter is widely used in cardiovascular surgical practice. Various complications of the Swan-Ganz catheter during insertion, its long-term placement, or removal are well known since its introduction.1-5 Herein, we report a case of the inadvertent fracture of an entrapped Swan-Ganz catheter during its attempted removal with moderate external traction. A 36-year-ol...

INTRODUCTION The placement of a Swan-Ganz catheter into the pulmonary artery may lead to a number of complications (2-17%). In less than 0.2% of cases Swan-Ganz catheterization results in serious vascular damage - pulmonary artery rupture (PAR). This paper presents two distinct forms of iatrogenic PAR treated endovascularly using different vascular devices. AIM To evaluate the effectiveness o...
متن کاملIntraoperative removal of a knotted Swan-Ganz catheter during lung transplantation.
We describe the case of a 52-year-old man with end-stage emphysema who underwent a right-sided lung transplantation. During preoperative monitoring an apparently non-functioning Swan-Ganz catheter could not be removed through the insertion site - right internal jugular vein. Another Swan-Ganz catheter was successfully installed through the left internal jugular vein, pulmonary artery pressures ...
متن کاملDeep venous thrombosis of the upper extremity associated with use of the Swan-Ganz catheter.
Two patients who developed unilateral neck vein distention following insertion of a Swan-Ganz catheter are described. One patient developed unilateral swelling of the arm used for catheter insertion. Following removal of the Swan-Ganz catheter in this patient, venograms of both upper extremities revealed internal jugular vein thrombosis and subclavian vein thrombosis of the involved extremity. ...
